More than 30 research groups are active at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. The research projects span across a broad range of topics covering various aspects of structure and function of biological systems. A majority of these topics is centered on biological membranes. Science for Life Laboratory, where many of our researchers are based, is also closely linked to the Department.
At the start of June, the David Drew lab group from the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics relocated from the Frescati Campus to SciLifeLab at Campus Solna.
Cellular architecture of lesions in MS now mapped out
Using advanced methodology, scientists in Sweden were able to reveal at the cellular level how lesions in multiple sclerosis develop. The new results are presented in the journal Cell by researchers from KI and SU.
Mapping the brain's serotonin pathways increases knowledge of our emotions
Fear and curiosity are emotions that determine how adventurous or cautious we are. But how are our emotions controlled by biological factors in the brain's nerve cells?
The Swedish Brain Foundation (Hjärnfonden) awards scholarship to DBB Postdoc
Letian Zhang, Postdoctoral Fellow at The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, has been awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship for a study on a specific brain tumor that mainly affects children.
Mats Nilsson, professor of Biochemistry, has been elected to membership in EMBO, an international organization for outstanding researchers in the field of life science.
