Ecology

Ecological research studies the distribution and abundance of species in time and space, and the interactions among organisms and with their environment.

Environmental Science

Environment and sustainability are important research fields at Stockholm University. The research covers, for example, environmental toxins, climate change and landscape processes and how to build a society in a sustainable way.

Evolutionary Research

Evolution is the change in inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. It is a unifying concept in all of biology and evolutionary processes give rise to diversity at every level of biological organization, including species, populations, individuals and molecules.

Marine Science

The seas cover more than 70 percent of the surface of our planet, and hosts a great variety of habitats. They range from artic ice landscapes, Baltic Sea archipelagos, tidal flats, coral reefs and trenches deeper that Mount Everest is high. At Stockholm University we perform research to discover more about the sea.

Plant Sciences

The plant science research covers several areas, among them life processes, ecological interactions and the evolutionary history of plants. The research is based on laboratory work as well as field work, performed for example in Sweden, in areas with a Mediterranean climate, and in the tropics.
