Research at the Department of Geological Sciences

Stockholm University is a leading research university that conducts basic independent research and applied research in the human and natural sciences. Our research produces internationally recognised scientific breakthroughs.

Doctoral studies take four years and result in a PhD, the highest academic degree in Sweden. There is also a two-year research study program which ends in a degree of licentiate.

The Department of Geological Sciences has three research education programmes: Geochemistry, Geology and Marine Geology. This education ends with a degree as Licentiate of Philosophy and/or Doctor of Philosophy in one of the three programmes.

Admission to the PhD program is only possible by applying to an announced PhD position. Carefully follow the instructions for making your application as indicated in the announcement, and submit your documents before the deadline.

January 15 and September 15: Available positions are announced.
February 15 and October 15: Deadline for applications.
