Apply for a leave from studies

On this page, you will find information on how to apply for a study break on one of our programs.

To apply for a study break on a program, fill in the following form: Application for study break (595 Kb)

Then send the completed form to your study counsellor.

Study breaks can only be made on programs and if you intend to deviate from the program for a period of time. In order to be granted a study break with a place guarantee, there must be special reasons. According to the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education's regulations (HSVFS 1999: 1), special reasons may be social, medical or other special circumstances such as child care, military or civilian service or student union assignments. Certificates proving the reasons given must be attached.

Study breaks are only granted for a full semester and a maximum of two semesters at a time. If you want to extend your study break, you must apply for it. Otherwise you run the risk of losing your place. If you are granted a study break, you retain your place on the program you are studying, but you are not guaranteed a place on any specific course. There may be changes in the education during your study break that affect your opportunities to continue according to the course of study to which you were admitted.

After the study break

You are responsible for announcing your return in good time. Before you can return to your studies, you must contact your student office no later than April 15 before the autumn term and no later than October 15 before the spring term. In case of late registration for return, the course place can not be guaranteed.
