Course: Introduction to Doctoral Studies at the Department of Physics FK40005, 5 credits.

This mandatory course intends to give an introduction to the organisation of the department and the administrative routines with a special focus on matters relevant for PhD students. The course also contains the section on research ethics common to all departments in the faculty section. In addition the course gives an introduction to some basic skills important for succesful PhD studies.

The course consists of the following separate sections:

  • Introduction to the department and PhD studies at Stockholm University.
  • Project management and stress-handling.
  • The common (for the faculty section) course in research ethics (see below). 
  • History and Philosophy of Science.
  • Academic Writing.

This PhD course should preferably be finished during your first two years of studies. The different subsections are given distributed over the year.

 

 

The course will be taught through lectures, workshops, group-discussions and exercises. The course is given in English.

 

A requirement for the grade "Pass" for the course is the grade "Pass" on each of the subsections, which requires participation in all parts of the respective subsection, and completed exercises. Examination is made in English.
