Fysikum's interesting lessons, demonstrations and tours attracted many students and teachers

Several thousand pupils and their teachers came to this year's Researcher's Friday at Vetenskapens hus and AlbaNova on September 27, 2024. Fysikum had a packed programme with scientists giving lessons, demonstrations and tours of our laboratories. Researcher's Friday is part of the European Researchers' Night science festival with events across Europe on 23-28 September 2024. In 2019, European Researchers' Night reached 1.6 million visitors in 27 countries. 433 cities participated and 36,000 researchers were involved.

What are the building blocks of the universe and how did it evolve? How is physics used in modern medicine and how can surface physics research contribute to reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? How do PhD students in different European countries collaborate to study ultrafast chemical processes?

PhD students, post-docs and professors from the Department of Physics and the Department of Astronomy will present the latest cutting-edge research in physics and astronomy, demonstrating various applications and fundamental physical phenomena. Invited classes from secondary schools took part in talks with scientists, laboratory tours and telescope tours. The pupils experienced the academic environment and were given an insight into research at Stockholm University.
