Student collaboration between SU and UCL

Environmental monitoring with a Raspberry Pi in two capitals - Stockholm and London.

In collaboration with University College London, UCL, SU runs a project where the air quality is measured and compared between the two cities. The students participating in the project from SU are Wilma Svedlund, a first year student of the Bachelor programme in Physics, and David Stuhrmann, a first year Master student in Computational Physics.

"We use Raspberry Pi computers together with sensor shields to measure various quantities. Currently, we are programming the Raspberry Pi in Python to save and analyze the data in the best way possible."

The team of two students at UCL is working with the same equipment.

"We are looking forward to have virtual meetings together and compare our results."

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.
