Presentation

Professor Monique Pfaltz works at Department of Psychology and Social Work (PSO) at Mid Sweden University. Her research assesses socio-emotional processes (for example regulation of closeness and distance, emotional expressivity, facial emotion recognition) in healthy individuals and patients affected by traumatic stress, with a special focus on the consequences of childhood maltreatment, that is, abuse and neglect. She furthermore uses experimental, psychophysiological and experience sampling methods to identify factors that keep health care professionals (including therapists working with traumatized clients) healthy. Finally, she studies the development of interventions that strengthen mental health and social functioning in traumatized individuals, including refugees and asylum seekers.
