Collaboration
The Department of Public Health Sciences was created in 2018, with the merger of two strong research centers CHESS and SoRAD, a merger that strengthened social science research on public health at Stockholm University. Researchers at the department work closely with society in many different ways.
Centre for Health Equity Studies (CHESS) was created in 2000 jointly by Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet. CHESS has a pronounced interdisciplinary quality, where sociologists, psychologists and public health scientists gather together to work on issues concerning inequality in health. There is a strong necessity, both scientific and societal, to assemble around this particular area of research.
The Centre for Social Research on Alcohol and Drugs (SoRAD) is an interdisciplinary research centre which initiates and conducts social scientific research in the field of alcohol, drugs, tobacco and gambling. SoRAD was established in 1999, with the aim to strengthen social alcohol and drug research. Researchers are now collaborating in the form of conferences, seminars, projects and networks, like SoRAD.s own networks Sonad and GARN. Questions regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco and gambling have, during a long time, been important, not only for researchers but politicians, civil servants, experts in different fields and not the least for the general public. This means that active collaboration is a central task.

Doctoral students network
EQUINODE is a national platform for collaboration for doctoral students at Swedish universities with an interest in health equity research. The purpose of this collaboration is to provide a platform for doctoral student exchange on matters concerning health equity research. Examples of activities include lectures, journal clubs, and workshops.
Collaboration with society
Researchers at the Department of Public Health Sciences contribute in public investigations and provide expert contributions. They also collaborate with various authorities in specific projects, both in the short and long term. Our researchers participate as members, experts and experts on boards, councils, committees and working groups. Some researchers divide their work between the Department of Public Health Sciences and other workplaces, such as various authorities or research institutes. The department is committed to make our research available by Open Access, for various forms of publications, such as scientific articles, teaching materials as well as for books.
