The challenges of AI in higher education

Recent technical developments have suggested using artificial intelligence (AI) to better understand and optimize student learning. This project explores ethical and legal challenges in relation to AI-driven practices in higher education.

Pedagogical development and learning analytics

The project is a part of the national WASP-ED program which aims to increase AI capability and capacity in Sweden. We strive to build a community around artificial intelligence (AI) and pedagogy issues to better understand university teachers’ needs.

AI in motion – autonomous cars

While there has been rapid progress in terms of the development of self driving vehicles, they have also been involved in a number of fatal accidents. This project studies the “social order” of traffic: What happens when artificial and human intelligence meet on the road?

Anthology on Digital Human Sciences

In June 2021, DHS published the anthology “Digital Human Sciences: New Objects – New Approaches”.

The book project started in 2019 and the publication is open access, at Stockholm University Press. Sonya Petersson, the Department of Culture and Aesthetics, was the editor.

The eleven chapters present perspectives of researchers from literature studies, media studies, computer and systems science, law and intercultural studies on “what methods, or combination of methods, are needed to investigate new objects, processes and forms of interactions that the ongoing digitalisation of society causes?”.

Chapters include, amongst other things, a sociocultural analysis of “big data”, interpretation of data visualisations, juridical informatics perspectives on digitalisation of personal information and the use of hard disks as sources for cultural heritage studies.
