New book with alumni from the Doctoral School in Humanities
The new book Dynamics of Multilingualism has now been published as an e-book and is available at the university library. It includes five chapters by alumni from the Doctoral School course with the same name.
In 2016 the Faculty of the Humanities at Stockholm University launched the Doctoral School in Humanities as an initiative to bring together PhD students from different humanities disciplines.
Professor Maria Kuteeva from the Department of English and Professors Caroline Kerfoot and Christopher Stroud from the Centre for Research on Bilingualism then created the course "The Dynamics of Multilingualism", which became part of the course offerings of the Doctoral School. Since then the course has changed format, but the encouragement for students to turn their course assignments into journal articles or chapter manuscripts remains.
Many of the course alumni have published the research that was first developed as part of their course work in international peer-reviewed journals. The idea for the edited volume Dynamics of Multilingualism came up during a final course conference.
The new book Dynamics of Multilingualism: Spatialised Repertoires and Representations is now available as an e-book by Palgrave Macmillan, and at the Stockholm university library. The book focuses on how societal challenges are mediated through language and other semiotic modalities, and is of interest for studies in fields such as sociolinguistics, anthropology, migration studies, and education.
Dynamics of Multilingualism: Spatialised Repertoires and Representations
We would like to thank the Faculty of the Humanities for their continued support and for making it possible for us to grow together with a new generation of scholars!
The editors Maria Kuteeva and Caroline Kerfoot say.
International course
The course Dynamics of Multilingualism: Affinities and Affordances is open for PhD students from universities across Sweden and abroad.
For me, the course served as a bridge to get more insight into what is going on in the research field of multilingualism and sociolinguistics at the moment, and also to establish contacts across universities in Scandinavia and across borders.
