Stockholm University gives out a number of prizes and commendations every year to people who further the work of the university in various ways. Honorary doctorates, medals, Teacher of the Year and the Stockholm Prize in Criminology are examples of these awards.

Stockholm University arranges a number of academic ceremonies every year to celebrate academic achievements and appointments. The doctoral conferment is the most important and traditionalized.

The Conferment of Master's Degrees is a graduation ceremony to celebrate newly graduated masters at Stockholm University.

Göran Gustafsson Prize

The Göran Gustafsson Foundation for Research in Natural Sciences and Medicine annually gives perennial large grants to researchers in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, molecular biology and medicine in Sweden.

Honorary doctorates

The awarding of an honorary doctorate is an expression of the University's appreciation of outstanding contributions in one or more of the University's areas of academic activity.

Among the common academic traditions at universities and higher education institutions in Sweden, the most important are the professorial installation and doctoral conferment, both dating from the Middle Ages.

The Stockholm Prize in Criminology

The Stockholm Prize in Criminology is an international prize in the field of criminology. It has been established under the aegis of the Swedish Ministry of Justice. The prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in criminological research or for the application of research results by practitioners for the reduction of crime and the advancement of human rights.
