Abstract

Moving beyond the treatment of soil as an inert substrate, we foreground soil as a living, climate-regulating medium, albeit entangled in multispecies relations, extractivist and regenerative practices. Here we will present recent and ongoing research focused on ”Thinking with Soil in Heritage Matters” as we explore anthropogenic soils, necrosoils, zombie soils as well as soils that has formed during wars. Engaging with recent research on the release of soil carbon duringarchaeological excavations From our different research angles, we question soil extractivism (also inarchaeology) and engage matters of peacebuilding, regeneration and conviviality.
