Courses for exchange students
30 credits per term constitutes full-time studies. Below are courses that we offer at the Department of English. For courses offered by other departments, please refer to their websites or the Stockholm University course catalogue.
When choosing your courses, you should ensure that they will be approved by your home university for a credit transfer. You should also select some alternative courses, as schedule clashes may occur and we may not be able to guarantee a place on all courses.
Courses offered every term
English I (30 credits)
English II (30 credits)
Follow the links above for detailed information about these courses. Please note that English I and English II can only be taken as a whole. It is not possible to take individual modules.
Optional modules at the English III level
The below optional modules in English literature and linguistics are planned for the spring term 2026. However, these are subject to change depending on the number of students. Therefore, make sure you provide alternatives when you send in your course selection form, as all modules may not be given.
These modules require background knowledge of the subject (English linguistics / literature). English III modules are suitable for students with at least two terms of studies in English literature / linguistics. When sending in the course selection form, students wanting to take these modules should also send in transcripts showing the English courses taken at their home university.
Advanced level
If places allow and if you are studying at the Master's level at your home university, you can apply for our courses at advanced level. Transcripts need to be submitted with the course selection form in order to establish eligibility.
For information on which Master's courses we are currently offering, see Courses and programmes.
Part-time courses
The following part-time courses will be offered in spring 2026:

Online courses without physical meetings:

Academic and Scientific Writing in English (7.5 credits, period 1)
