Crime Prevention
My research areas mainly concern the school and the social services as recipients of, and arenas for, crime prevention efforts and mandates. I am also involved in a project on criminal sanctions among young people. My dissertation focused on the importance of school affiliation for more serious forms of violent and property crime. The starting point was the need to complement the dominant individual-oriented perspective on the relationship between school and crime with a more socio-structural approach, emphasizing crime as a contextual phenomenon.
After my PhD defense, I worked for a couple of years as an investigator responsible for research and development at the Social Services Administration in the City of Stockholm. Since January 2023, I have been back at Stockholm University and the Department of Criminology, working on several projects that in different ways address definitions and practices of crime prevention among professionals and young recipients. Among other things, I am interested in how crime prevention initiatives directed at schools and social services are received, interpreted, and practiced by professionals and young people.
