Research group

Adult Learning

The research group has a broad interest in adults learning from adolescence to older ages. We study formal learning in adult education, higher education and popular education, but also learning in informal setting such as working and leisure life. We have a specific interest in studying transitions between different life events, education, and work.

About me

I am a PhD Student at the Department of Education, Stockholm University since 2022. I have a Master's Degree in International and Comparative Education from Stockholm University.

In my dissertation project, I am exploring (adult) education in Swedish prisons and how the correctional setting shapes teaching practices, participation, and social relations. I have interviewed teachers about their experiences of working in correctional settings and how they support their students' learning. In addition, I have conducted interviews with formerly incarcerated individuals and distributed questionnaires to prisoners in order to learn more about their perspectives, experiences, and reasons for participating respectively not participating in education while incarcerated.

Education in Prison

In Sweden, individuals can study adult education while incarcerated. However, the conditions for education differ from those found in the wider society. This project aims at exploring how education is organized in Swedish prisons and what it is like to teach and study in prison.
