Paul Levin Director

I am a Docent in international relations and publish in this field with a focus on Turkish and area studies. I have also published on comparative politics and public administration. Among other publications, I am the author of Turkey and the European Union: Christian and Secular Images of Islam (2011) and the co-editor of Migration from Sweden to Turkey (2017 with Bahar Baser) and Interdisciplinarity and Comparison in Turkish Studies (2014 with Sinan Ciddi).

I have been the director of SUITS (Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies) since its inception in 2013, and have served as Director of CEST, the Consortium for European Symposia on Turkey , since 2019.

An Associate Researcher at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs (UI) and a Research Fellow at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul, I also serve on the international advisory boards of the journal Turkish Studies (Routledge) and the Edinburgh Studies in Modern Turkey Series (Edinburgh University Press). I am a member of the board of the Friendship Association of the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul, a member of the CATS Network of the Centre for Applied Turkish Studies at the Stiftung Wissenshaft und Politik in Berlin, and a regular participant of the meetings of the Trilateral Strategy Group and the Turkey-EU Reflection Group, both organized by the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

I received my Ph.D. from the School of International Relations at the University of Southern California in 2007, after earning an M.A. in Political Science also at USC. I have a BA (Fil. Kand.) in Practical Philosophy from Stockholm University.
