About me
Anna Roosvall is Full Professor of, and subject representative for, Media and Communication Studies.
Anna Roosvall studies climate journalism, cultural journalism, as well as activism and "artivism" in the wider media landscape. She is interested in the politics and poetics of representation, and often works with justice and democracy theory in relation to geography and identity. She is engaged in how nature-culture, culture-politics and national-transnational continuums are imagined among journalists and activists, as well as in various textual and visual modes of mediated communication. A central question is: how do we understand the wider world – and ourselves in the wider world – in and through mediated expressions?
Focus areas: cultural debate; cultural journalism and democracy; the climate crisis in journalism and social media; climate justice; mediation of indigenous peoples’ climate activism; art and activism – "artivism"; transnationalism; foreign news images; identity politics; justice theory; semiotics, discourse and genre; aesthetics and politics; motherhood in film, media and journalism.
Anna Roosvall teaches on the PhD, Master, and Undergraduate levels. She teaches the courses Media, Justice and Human Rights (Master course) and Miljö och hållbarhet i medier, film och mode (Environment and Sustainability in Media, Film and Fashion), and is also involved in method courses as well as in the course Kulturjournalisik och kritik (Cultural Journalism and Cultural Critique).
Current research concerns areas such as media, environment and climate "artivism", media and motherhood, cultural journalism, encounters between (often visual) art forms, media and the political, and in general the aesthetic and the political.
