Summer School Towards Inclusive Global Histories, Linnaeus University
On 8-9 September 2025, the Linnaeus Centre for Colonial and Postcolonial Studies, the Global Diplomacy Network, the European Network in Universal and Global History, and the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines co-organized a summer school for PhD students in Växjö.

Birgit Tremml-Werner was part of the organizing committee and co-taught a seminar on silences in the archive. 20 PhD students and 11 scholars from 20 universities participated in 11 parallel paper seminars, hands-on workshops, and plenary discussions.
Discussions reflected critically on how we practice global history, focusing on questions such as how to challenge Eurocentrism and Anglophone dominance and how to account not just for connections, but also for disconnections, silences, and asymmetries in global narratives?
The summer school concluded with the collective exercise of drafting a manifesto for Inclusive Global Histories, which brought to light many unsolved issues when it comes to building a shared vision of how to make the field more inclusive.
