Research group Religious Education

Religion is part of both people’s everyday lives and society, and we encounter it in schools, religious settings, and various public contexts. The research group examines questions of teaching and learning about religion and how these are shaped by social, cultural, and religious contexts. Particular attention is given to the relationship between schools, society, and religious settings.

The research is conducted in both Swedish and international contexts. Through international comparisons and collaborations, the group examines different approaches to religious education and religious pedagogy, while international perspectives also help to shed light on and critically examine the Swedish context.

The group’s research informs teaching and supervision at Stockholm University. The group also regularly organizes seminars where current research is discussed, research findings are shared, and new ideas in religious education are developed. The seminars are open to everyone interested and are listed in the department’s calendar. (Some seminars are held in English and others in Swedish).
