Research group Green Criminology
The Green Criminology Group was established in 2022 by researchers and PhD students at the Department of Criminology at Stockholm University. We focus, among other things, on issues of criminalisation, as many acts can be ‘lawful but awful’; the fundamental rights of animals and nature; and the role of powerful actors such as large corporations. A central question for the group is the extent to which the law reflects the interests of powerful groups and the extent to which the effects of environmental degradation fall differently on less and more privileged groups. We are interested both in the specifically Swedish context and in broader global contexts. We are keen to reach beyond the boundaries of criminology to collaborate with other disciplines and subject categories, within and outside Sweden.
