Research group Historical grassland ecology

We investigate how past and present landscape patterns influence present plant populations and diversity in grasslands and associated habitats. Specific landscape patterns are habitat size, connectivity, fragmentation, habitat amount and how people and livestock use the landscape. We use a wide range of data such as historical maps and historical data, GIS, field inventories and experiment together with analyses of plant communities and traits, dispersal processes, landscape genetics and populations size. Our fundamental and applied research will help to protect and restore grassland biodiversity for the future.
