Feminist science studies have a long history of analyzing how sex/gender is described in biological research and how biological arguments are used to justify oppression.
This research includes for example to critically examine how biological sex is described as dichotomous and static, to show nature’s diversity and variation in sex and sexualities, as well as how conceptions of femaleness and maleness have influenced biological research about sex – both through the exclusion of women from the science professions, and through ignoring questions about women, females and sexuality beyond reproduction in the production of knowledge.
