Research in this section covers various areas of study related to the Middle East, ranging from Arabic and Semitic languages and literature to area studies, including politics, economy, history, sociology, anthropology, among others.
Arabic literary studies is a major research subject within Middle Eastern languages and cultures. Literary researchers are engaged in studies of Modern Arabic fiction, children's and young adult literature and exile literature. It is not uncommon for research to be conducted in cross-disciplinary research fields.
Area studies is a research area that approaches the social sciences, but with a strong foundation in the humanities. The research covers the broad topics of identityentity, gender, nationalism and national belonging, minorities and migration, and human rights through disciplines as diverse as history, political sciences, philosophy, and religious studies.
In language studies, research is conducted in Semitic Linguistics, Lexicography, Computational Linguistics.
