It represents an important geological between NE Africa and S Arabia. Socotra’s largest island consists of Precambrian-age basement composed of igneous and metamorphic rocks overlain by predominantly Cretaceous to Tertiary limestone and sandstone. The younger igneous complex comprises peralkaline granite and pyroclastic and effusive rocks representing an eroded volcanic center. This study investigates the age and petrogenesis of these volcanic rocks in which mafic and felsic compositions are stratigraphically interlayered and disequilibrium textures are well preserved. This intimate compositional association suggests a complex magmatic process(es) which will be investigated through geochronology, geochemistry,  and numerical modelling in order to understand their age and tectonic significance.
