Revised submission guidelines (April 2015)

The Journal of Nordic Archaeological Science (JONAS) is an open-access journal that publishes original theoretical and applied papers within the field of archaeological science. No article publishing fees will be charged.

In order to facilitate manuscript submission, JONAS offers a revised, two-step, submission process: For initial submission, no particular formatting is required. If, accepted, however, the manuscript should be formatted according to the style guidelines below.

Initial submission (have it your way)

Please make sure that your manuscript (in English) is supplied with page numbers, that it contains an abstract, references, and that any figures and/or tables have captions, in addition to the main text. Your manuscript (not exceeding 6 MB) should be submitted to:

jonas@arklab.su.se

You should receive a receipt/acknowledgement within one week after submission.  Articles will then be subjected to peer review. Preference will be given to papers of less than 10,000 words in length, including figures, tables and references (where 1 full page of figures equals 1,000 words).

Final submission (follow style guide)

Spelling should conform to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Addresses for all contributors must be included. Please also provide an e-mail address and phone and fax numbers for the corresponding author.

An abstract of less than 200 words in English should be submitted.

Up to six keywords should be included.

A suitable running title of less than 75 characters (including spaces) should be specified.

Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively and separately in order of mention and captions provided on separate sheets. All tables and figures must be cited in the text, e.g. (fig. 5, Table 1).

Illustrations should be black-and-white (colour reproduction will only be used in the electronic version of the paper) and their size preferably adapted for one or two-column reproduction (i.e. 79 mm or 165 mm in width, maximum 238 mm in height). High-resolution electronic artwork, i.e. minimum 600 dpi for line art, and minimum 300 dpi for greyscale, preferably as tiff files (pdf and eps are also acceptable formats) must be provided.

No footnotes will be accepted.

References in the text should follow the Harvard system, with author, date and page numbers within brackets, e.g. (Amundsen 1994:43–48; Darwin et al. 1997; Bodoni & Celsius 2002). A consolidated list of references in alphabetical order should be provided at the end of the manuscript. All references in this list should include authors + initials, date, title of book (in italics)/article, place of publication for books, and name of journal (in italics) for articles, e.g.:

Proofs in pdf will be sent to the corresponding author by e-mail.
