About REWHARD

We are a national infrastructure working to provide a strong basis for research about relations between working and living conditions, sickness absence, health and well-being.

REWHARD intends to ensure the long-term development of four high-quality databases and enable and support Swedish research about societal challenges, such as:

the ageing population
economic inequalities
work environment
labour market changes
mental health problems
sickness absence
chronic diseases/multimorbidity
migration
extended working life.

REWHARD is funded primarily by the Swedish Research Council (VR), Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University.

Our services

We offer researchers various services such as data access and analyses, sharing of statistical syntax files and advice on ordering and handling data. We also organise seminars on the use of Swedish databases for research within our field.

The nodes LNU, SLOSH, IMAS and STODS

Below you will find brief information about our nodes.

The level of living survey (LNU)

LNU is a recurring survey in which a sample of Sweden's adult population is interviewed or fills out questionnaires about their concrete living conditions. It is one of the oldest ongoing panel surveys in the world.

The Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health (SLOSH)

SLOSH is an internationally leading panel study that highlights how different factors in people's working life, private life and state of health affect each other over time. Through better knowledge of how the risks of disease and decreased well-being can be reduced both in and outside working life, SLOSH can contribute to better conditions for good public health.

Insurance Medicine All Sweden (IMAS)

IMAS is an interdisciplinary research project based on Swedish register data on more than 14 million people over several generations. The aim of the project is to generate knowledge about different aspects of sickness absence and disability pension.

Swedish Twin project Of Disability pension and Sickness absence (STODS)

In the STODS project, we are following about 120 000 twins over a long period of time with regard to sick leave and disability pension. The project provides unique opportunities to investigate the importance of hereditary factors in differences for sickness absence.

Organisation

REWHARD is organised as a consortium with Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet as members. The infrastructure includes the nodes LNU, SLOSH, IMAS and STODS and a small administrative office. The management consists of a steering group, an executive group and a director.

Research infrastructures

REWHARD is one of several national research infrastructures with funding from the Swedish Research Council. There are other infrastructures that, like REWHARD, enable research based on microdata for individuals. The infrastructures have different orientations and coordinate data from various data sources.
