About me

I am Professor of Russian Linguistics, Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. h.c. of Stockholm University and Paris-Sorbonne University. During 2016-2018 I was Affiliated Professor at the Department of Slavic and Baltic studies, Finnish, Dutch and German. Since 2020 I am Affiliated Professor at the same department. I have also participated in the corpus research program AAC-Austrian Academy Corpus at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna (2001–2016).

My recent research covers a variety of topics, including the theory of phraseology, Construction Grammar, German and Russian lexical semantics, lexicography, cognitive linguistics, and corpus linguistics.

I have published 11 monographs, 18 dictionaries and about 600 papers in Russian, German, English, Spanish and French. Among them are Kognitive Aspekte der Idiom-Semantik (1995; 22016), Idiome im mentalen Lexikon (1997), Figurative language: cross-cultural and cross-linguistic perspectives (2005 – with Elisabeth Piirainen), Studien zur deutschen Lexik (2013). 

I am co-author and co-editor of Phraseology: An International Handbook of Contemporary Research,  Vice-President of the European Society of Phraseology, member of the executive board of the Society of Intercultural German Studies, member of the International Pragmatics Association, the American Pragmatics Association, the Slavic Linguistics Society, and the Slavic Cognitive Linguistics Association.

In 2010-2011 I was Guest professor at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, Stockholm University. I have also participated in the lexicographic project “Swedish-Russian and Russian-Swedish dictionary”, financed by the Swedish Institute. The project was collaboration between the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, Stockholm University and the Russian Language Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Research projects and grants

More than 25 grants from RGNF, RFFI, DFG, Swedish Institute, Wenner-Gren Foundation.

At present I participate in an international collaborative project between Stockholm University, Higher School of Economics (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Ilia State University (Tbilisi, Georgia).
