In his 1926 thesis, Fynden av romerska mynt i det fria Germanien, (The
finds with Roman coins in free Germania), Sture Bolin raised the
question about hoards as a historical source material. Based on a table
covering hoards in Scania he connected the Scanian war 1676-1679 with a
contemporary cocncentration of hoards in Scania. It started a debate
about war and periods of unrest to explain the hoards, where the views
of Bolin has often been over stated. In any event the map shows vividly
how the hoards during the 1670s are concentrated to the areas (above all Scania and Bohuslän) which suffered during the Scanian war.
