The course mainly includes writing an individual and independent thesis within some statistical area. The choice of area is based on the student's interest and/or on the suggestion of the supervisor. The course provides advanced knowledge about planning, implementation and reporting of one's own work, in terms of processing both theoretical and practical problems as well as knowledge in scientific and investigative activities. The course also provides advanced knowledge on how to critically review a statistical work, what scientific literature is available in the field and how to search for references, how to organize and write a scientific report and how to orally present your results.
