Carina Carlhed Ydhag is an Associate professor in Educational sociology and senior lecturer in Education. She has been leading the work at the department since 1 August 2020.

Master student Hidehisa Matsumoto this year’s Global Swede

The Global Swede Award is honouring international students who excel in areas closely related to innovation and entrepreneurship. This year, Hidehisa Matsumoto from Japan is Stockholm University’s student receiving the award. Hidehisa Matsumoto is currently studying the Master’s Programme in International and Comparative Education.

Yuto Kitamura is one of this year's nine honorary doctors

Stockholm University has chosen this year’s honorary doctors, all of whom have contributed in distinctive ways to the University’s activities in research and education. 

Yuto Kitamura has been central for the cooperation between the University of Tokyo and Stockholm University, KTH and Karolinska Institutet. He is also a key person in the direct cooperation between the Department of Education at Stockholm University and the Graduate School of Education, University of Tokyo.

The Future of International and Comparative Education Research

Mark Bray and Larry Suter gave the keynotes at the NOCIES 2019 biannual conference and GlobalCIE Forum, held at Stockholm University, October 11th-12th, 2019. They discussed the Future of International and Comparative Education Research, stressing the importance of collaboration between methodological perspectives and the benefits of mixed-methods research.

Major increase of admitted students to Stockholm University’s master’s programmes

The programmes at Stockholm University with the highest number of students on a waiting list are the Master's Programme in Economics, Master's Programme in International and Comparative Education, the Master’s Programme in International Commercial Arbitration and the Master’s Programme in Decision analysis and Data Science. We are glad for the happy news!

Global Swede Award to excellent student Elise Lammers

This year’s Global Swede is awarded to excellent master’s student in International and Comparative Education at Stockholm University, Elise Lammers, who was among the 20 students from 17 countries to received the prestigious award at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Special Issue of the Nordic Journal of Vocational Education and Training (NJVET)

NJVET published recently (late December) a special issue on cultural historical theory with Lázaro Moreno Herrera, professor, as Guest editor. NJVET is an open access research journal currently the best ranked journal in research in vocational education and training in the Nordic countries. The contributors in the special issue are researchers from Finland, Switzerland, Germany and Australia, Lázaro and Marianne Teräs from IPD contributed each with an article.

Cambodian Ministry of Education Visit

A Visit by the Cambodian Ministry of Education

On May 26th we had a delegation from Cambodia visiting the Department to learn about the Swedish Education system and teacher education, more specifically. As part of the delegation, we also had officials from the Swedish School Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) and from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Julia Gillard's Presentation on the Global Partnership for Education

Julia Gillard, Chairwoman of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the former Prime Minister of Australia, visited the Department of Education on May 19th, 2016 and gave a presentation on GPE's work in supporting developing countries to ensure that every child receives a quality basic education, prioritizing the poorest, most vulnerable and those living in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

Dagmar Knotova is this year's Global Swede

Dagmar Knotova, Master’s student in International and Comparative Education at the Department of Education is this year’s Stockholm University Global Swede. Swedish Minister for Trade, Dr Ewa Björling, presented Dagmar with the Global Swede diploma during a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Our master's student Karen Ann Blom (Soon) from Canada was one of the 24 international students who on May 7th received the Global Swede Award presented by Trade Minister Ewa Björling.
