You should submit your application for a student residence permit as soon as you have received notification of being admitted to the program.

The Swedish Migration Agency take quite a long time to process applications.

Requirements

A thesis is required as we want to make sure that applicants will be able to successfully complete the programme, which contains a rather large Master’s thesis at the end.

The quality and topic of a prior thesis are also informative more generally as to the capacity of the student

If you do not hold the required degree but are registered for the last year of a programme leading to such a degree, Stockholm University permits conditional admission if you can provide:

  • an updated transcripts of records,
  • an abstract or summary (max 1 page, in English) of your planned thesis project, and
  • if you are an international applicant, you need to upload an official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Swedish programme. The document has to be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar’s Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution.

University Admissions in Sweden has created a form which you can use to get certification from your current university:

Statement of enrollment status for students in their final year

All courses and programmes at Stockholm University require proof of proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6.

If you have questions regarding language requirements, please contact the Admissions Office on

study@su.se

Deadline for uploading supporting academic documents on universityadmissions.se is usually two weeks after the application deadline.

More information on key dates and deadlines

We cannot accept any additional supporting documents after the application deadline for supporting documents.

Late application

If the admission is closed, you are not able to apply. Occasionally some programmes are open for late application. In that case it is indicated at

universityadmissions.se

For applicants in the first admissions round, the deadline for accepting the offer is usually in the middle of April.

The exact date will be emailed to the admitted applicants after the results have been announced.

During your studies

Exchange studies are possible, in principle, at the partner institutions listed on the department webpage (su.se/department-of-linguistics/education/study-abroad) and institutions in the Civis alliance (su.se/civis).

However, there are some practical limitations to do with scheduled mandatory sessions at SU and with semester times at partner institutions. We are currently investigating how to facilitate exchange studies for programme students. You will find out more at the start of the programme.

Subject to similar limitations as exchange studies, it may be possible to carry out an internship in lieu of some of the elective courses.

Citizenship or national origin should not be an obstacle, as long as the student is academically qualified for the work and comfortable with English as a working language.

Can I do an internship within the Project course?

The Project Course is not designed to contain an internship. You would have to discuss the possibilities with the course coordinator. Note that there are sessions with mandatory attendance at the start and end of the Project Course.

Can I do an internship as part of the Master’s Thesis course?

The Master’s Thesis course is intended as a full-time project in the last semester. There are a number of seminars in which active participation is expected (as well as individual supervision).

You would need to discuss the possibility of a concurrent internship with the course coordinator.

After your studies

As the first cohort have not graduated yet, we have no information on their subsequent careers. However, we are confident that recent graduates from this programme will be very attractive on the job market, as AI is a rapidly growing field and language is an essential part of effective AI implementations.

Stockholm University does offer support to help students and recent graduates to find their way into the job market. See su.se/english/education/careers and su.se/career for more information.
