About the centre
The R&D Centre at Stockholm University is a central hub for school development grounded in research and shaped through collaboration with educational practice. The centre is led by the Department of Education and Didactics and coordinates the university’s research and development initiatives aimed at preschools, schools and other educational settings.
We work to strengthen quality, equity and goal achievement across the education system. Our efforts are based on current research and tailored to local needs. In close cooperation with school authorities, leaders, educators, government agencies and other stakeholders, we help develop knowledge that makes a difference in practice.
The R&D Centre hosts the national initiative Collaboration for Best Schooling, a government-funded assignment run in partnership with several Swedish universities. Together, we provide long-term, research-based support to schools and school providers facing significant challenges. The work includes local development processes, national knowledge exchange and is quality assured by a scientific advisory board.
Beyond this national mission, the R&D Centre offers commissioned training programmes, expert support, evaluations and networks for school leaders. Everything we do is rooted in research and developed in close dialogue with the organisations we work with.
Our vision is an education sector where research and practice interact in meaningful and sustainable ways. Through the R&D Centre, we offer a platform that makes school development both possible and relevant – wherever the need may be.
