Master´s Thesis in Environmental humanities

The course aims to develop skills in conducting an independent scientific investigation that is presented in the form of a degree project.

Central components here are the formulation of a research problem, choice and application of method and theory, and realization of an investigation. The course also trains students in the scientific and peer review process. This includes defending their degree project and critically and thoroughly reviewing another student's degree project.

For a passed result the student should be able to:

- independently set up and carry out a scientific investigation according to current archaeological and environmental humanistic scientific practice

- formulate purpose and central questions in relation to a relevant scientific problem

- identify and delimit a source material to analyze this problem

- search for relevant research literature and relate it to the current state of research

- critically evaluate and interpret sources and previous research to answer the question and fulfil the purpose.

- independently link the research task to relevant theoretical perspectives, contexts or different interpretative perspectives.

- write a structured and linguistically correct account of the scientific investigation.

- clearly present the main results of their own research

- defend their work and critically review the work of others

- explain and evaluate how their own degree project contributes to the development of knowledge

- consider applicable research ethics standards
