Research Internship in Physics

This course gives you the opportunity to participate in physics research with a research group at a university or company.
Forskningspraktik

In the course, you have the possibility to early in your education work in a research laboratory. Here, a student is handling sensitive samples of nanoparticles in solution. The sample is then studied using lasers and detectors.

The course consists of supervised participation in research activities at a university, college or company.  You will learn to work independently, document your work in writing, and report on the research question, the connection between your work and that question, as well as reflect on ethical aspects of the research work.

This is a first cycle course given during the daytime. It is an elective course.

Teaching Format

The teaching consists of supervised internship in a research group at a university, college, or companies that conducts physics research and seminars. Participation in all teaching activities is compulsory. Supervisors and suggestions on internship are provided by the department. Before the internship period begins, a plan for the work is approved by the examiner.
Under special circumstances the examiner may, after consultation with the relevant teacher, exempt the student from the obligation to participate in certain compulsory activities. The student may then be assigned an additional task to compensate.

Assessment

The course is examined through a written logbook, written feedback by the supervisor, and an oral presentation at the end of the course.

The course is graded according to a two-point grading scale: fail (U) or pass (G).

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.

The course do not have a fixed schedule, but are instead agreed upon with the supervisor and course coordinator at the beginning of the course.

Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.

The literature includes scientific publications and reports in the relevant field acquired by the student through literature searches, as well as additional material provided by the supervisor at the internship site.

Course reports are displayed for the three most recent course instances.
