The course deals with practical application of geoscientific field methods.

During the course, the students are trained in description and identification of landforms, Quaternary accumulations, and soils, as well as in mapping and compilation of collected information in the field.

The course can be included in the Bachelor's Programme in Earth Science (Distance Learning) but it can also be taken as an individual course.

Summer term 2026

The course is given during the summer term and is therefore open for application during the corresponding application window in February 16-March 16, 2026.

The course comprises one consecutive week's teaching August 24-28, with an excursion in south-central Sweden. Ahead of this week, preparation tasks are performed through distance studies.

The prerequisites for participation are knowledge corresponding to the courses Tellus I - Physical Geography (GE2020) and Tellus II - Physical Geography (GE4023). If you have not completed the qualifying courses Tellus I - Natural Geography 15 credits (GE2020) and Tellus II - Natural Geography 12.5 credits (GE4023) when you apply for Tellus III - Natural Geography, 2.5 credits, you need to contact the student office to re-register on these courses.

Participation entails a cost for you as a student, which is calculated at the time of the course. The cost is usually c. 1000 SEK. Other than this cost, you also need to plan and pay for your food during the course.


Teaching Format

The teaching consists of lecturing, excursion, and group fieldwork partly under supervision.


Assessment

Examination is on site by oral presentation and practical assignments.

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.


Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
