Geography III

Geography III, the third semester of geography for teacher students, provides a background in geographical theory and the history of ideas, and also includes urban and regional planning.

The first part of the course addresses the intellectual history of geography, various scientific philosophies and theories that have influenced the discipline, as well as key concepts in the philosophy of science.

You will gain knowledge about the societal conditions of spatial planning, with a focus on laws, frameworks, and stakeholders. You will also study the connections between physical planning and the natural environment, with regard to issues such as water management, geo-hazards and ecologically valuable environments. A central question is what it means to plan for economically, socially, and ecologically sustainable urban and rural development in Sweden today.

The course is part of the Teacher Education Programme and is offered by the Department of Physical Geography in collaboration with the Department of Human Geography.
