Isotope Geology

The course covers preparation and measurement methods of isotopes including data reduction, distribution of light stable and radiogenic isotopes in nature, changes in isotope values over geologic time scales in some important reservoirs (e.g., sulfur in seawater), mixing models, and an orientation in some applications in geochemistry, petrology and biology.

The course consists of thirteen 2h lectures and 8 exercises (the programming language R is used in the exercises). The course is given by the Department of Geological Sciences and Natural museum of history (two example lectures).

Assessment

The course is examined through a written exam placed at the end of the course. Grading takes place according to a seven-point grading scale:

A = Excellent
B = Very good
C = Good
D = Satisfactory
E = Sufficient
Eg = Insufficient
F = Totally insufficient

For passing, a minimum grade of E is required.


The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
Course reports are displayed for the three most recent course instances.

Course evaluations allow the possibility to affect and take responsibility for your own learning and gives important information for our work with pedagogical development.

It's important that all students complete the course evaluations after each course, it gives the Department the opportunity to improve the courses' quality.
