Art Historical Knowledge and Interpretation

This course examines art history in a critical and self-reflective manner. The student analyzes texts from selected researchers within their theoretical and historical contexts.

The student also critically examines their own research interests and motivations, situating them within a disciplinary framework.

The course deepens the student’s understanding of epistemology within art history as a specific field, addressing questions of objectivity and subjectivity, interpretation and rhetoric, academic context, and disciplinary boundaries.

Teaching Format

The teaching consists of seminars.

Assessment

The course is assessed through ongoing oral assignments and a written examination.
