Case Studies in Art History

This course focuses on working with an individual case study in the form of an art historical object, such as two-dimensional or three-dimensional art, digital art, or public environments.

The focus of the case studies is determined by the instructor within the framework of the course. Through the case study, the student will examine display, representation, historical contextualization, and apply source-critical approaches based on the context relevant to the course. The course emphasizes both visual and text-based empirical material. During the course, the student will, in consultation with the instructor, identify relevant reference literature in relation to their own case study.

Teaching Format

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and on-site seminars.

Assessment

The course is examined through oral presentations and written assignments.
