Case Studies in Heritage Studies
This course aims to develop the ability to conduct independent scientific inquiry through case studies examining the interaction between different types of artifacts, natural aspects, and tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
It enables students to identify, evaluate, interpret, and discuss how to safeguard and utilize older culturally and historically valuable environments and landscapes. The focus is on how environments, landscapes, and practices shaped and used by humans can be integrated into modern use. The case studies are interdisciplinary and are processed using different types of source material and analytical methods.
The course provides knowledge essential for professional work, for example within cultural heritage institutions such as central government agencies, county administrative boards, museums, and municipalities, as well as within other authorities and companies that handle cultural heritage issues at various levels.
Teaching Format
The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, excursions, and fieldwork.
Assessment
The course is examined through continuous oral assignments and a written examination.
