Art, Architecture and Cultural Heritage in a Global Perspective I
This course examines art and artistic ideas and practices from a global perspective.
The focus is on movement and mobility: how artworks, people, and ideas throughout history have moved across the world as a result of cultural, social, economic, and political processes and power relations. The course also analyzes how art often emerges from, and bears traces of, encounters between different cultures and traditions.
Attention is also given to places that have functioned or continue to function as nodes in networks of cultural movements and exchanges.
Teaching Format
The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and field trips.
Assessment
The course is assessed through continuous oral assignments and a take-home exam that is presented and discussed at a concluding seminar.
