Theoretical Approaches to Sociological Analysis

This course presents different theoretical approaches to sociological analysis, both in terms of theory application and theory development, with the purpose of gaining a deeper understanding of the use and development of theory in sociology.

The aim of this course is to give an overview of different theoretical approaches to sociological analysis, both in terms of theory application and theory development. The course relates to substantive sociological themes for examples, but the focus is on the forms of working with and developing theory per se.

The course is taught over 10 weeks on a half-time basis. Teaching takes the form of classes mixing lecturing with exercises and student-led discussions. All students are expected to have read the required literature before each class. In-person attendance and active participation is required.
