German Literature 1871–1945

This course provides in-depth knowledge of the German language and the literature of German-speaking countries from 1871–1945, set against a cultural-historical background.

The course is a freestanding module of the German II course and is a continuation course of the German I course.

The course consists of two modules.

Modules

German Literature 1871–1945, 4.5 credits

This module covers German fiction from 1871 to 1945 against a cultural-historical background. The course also covers basic literary terms and concepts for text analysis and how these can be applied to the literature studied.

Text Analyzes and Discussion, 3 credits

This module focuses on practising oral analysis and presenting views in a seminar setting on the texts covered in the module German-Literature 1871–1945.

Teaching Format

Teaching consists of (recorded) lectures, seminars, and (group) exercises.

The Language of instruction is German.


Assessment

The examination is conducted in German.

This module is examined through an oral exam.

Text Analyzes and Discussion, 3 credits

This module is assessed continuously through oral presentations at each seminar.
