How to apply as an exchange student

Are you interested in studying at Stockholm University as an exchange student? Stockholm University is committed to advancing a sustainable and democratic society through knowledge, enlightenment and critical thinking.

In order to come to Stockholm University as an exchange student your home university must have a formal agreement for exchange studies with Stockholm University. This can either be a departmental agreement or a university-wide agreement. This webpage is for you if you are planning to come to Stockholm University on a university-wide agreement.

Your first point of contact should be the International Office at your home university, and they can tell you which kind of agreement they have with Stockholm University.

Nomination and Application for university-wide agreements

The first step to becoming an exchange student at Stockholm University is to be nominated by your home university.

Typically, your home university will require you to complete an internal application and selection process before receiving a nomination. Nomination procedures vary between universities, so it is important to stay in close contact with the exchange coordinator at your home university.

Once you have been nominated by your home university, the International Office at Stockholm University will contact you with further application instructions.

Support for students with a disability

Stockholm University provides various forms of targeted study support to students with long-term disabilities. The support is based on your individual needs and aims to facilitate your studies.

As an exchange student you are advised to contact the coordinator for targeted study support as soon as you have been accepted to Stockholm University.

Erasmus+ Traineeship (SMT)

To find internship opportunities at Stockholm University, start by visiting our webpage: su.se and identifying the research group within your field of study. Then look for professors who work on your specific topic of interest. Take the time to review and read some of their publications so you are familiar with their research.

When you reach out, write a short email introducing who you are, clearly stating why you are contacting them and the exact dates you are seeking the internship. Make sure to demonstrate that you have done your research and read their work. Keep your message short and concise. Please note that Traineeship is not possible for incoming exchange students.
