About me
Professor of Criminology and Associate Professor of History
I earned my PhD in 2007 at the Department of History, Lund University, and in 2013 I became an associate professor at the same institution. During several semesters (2013 and 2017), I was a visiting researcher at the Department of Criminology, Stockholm University. In permanent positions, I have previously worked as a senior lecturer in Human Rights at Lund University (2014–2016), as a lecturer in History with a focus on gender and interculturality at Södertörn University (2018–2020), and as a professor of History at Södertörn University (2020–2024).
I have been teaching since 2006 and have extensive teaching experience in history, human rights, and criminology at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. My current teaching at the Department of Criminology includes:
- Theoretical Perspectives (Criminology II)
- Victimology (Criminology II)
- Supervision of Bachelor´s and Master’s Theses
My research is strongly interdisciplinary. Over the past fifteen years, my work has primarily been situated at the intersection of intellectual and cultural history, criminology/victimology, and gender studies. Through detailed analyses of legislation, criminal policy, and legal practice; forensic, psychiatric, and psychological discourses; as well as media representations and literary narratives, I have examined issues concerning:
- Violence, honour, and masculinity
- Men as victims of crime
- The health, suffering, and rights of crime victims
- War crimes and humanitarianism
Methodologically, my research has frequently drawn on a genealogical approach to history in a Foucauldian sense, with the aim of developing what may be termed “histories of the present.” This approach is combined with cultural and discourse‑analytical perspectives, as well as poststructuralist theories of masculinity and intersectionality.
In recent years, I have developed an increasing interest in questions of temporality—specifically, the ways in which understandings, representations, and enactments of time are articulated in discourses and narratives concerning crime and victimisation. My work has explored these issues through analytical concepts such as memory, trauma, and hauntology
