History of Sports is a research field which focuses on how and why sports have evolved as they have.
Perspectives might include commersialization, professionalization and rationalization. Sports are also studied from a societal perspective. The field asks questions about what sports have meant to, and how they have been affected by, norms, apporaches, power relations and politics in society.
