Within this theme we explore how people learn and develop as human-beings during different stages of the lifecycle; how migrants become a part of the local society; people’s participation in popular adult education (folkbildning), music and cultural life, sports movements, the civil defense, political and other organisations. We also explore how these movements and organisations are coordinated and lead, as well as how they contribute to the development of civil society.
Within this area we look at how education and knowledge acquisition as both a process, and in surrounding environment, presumably influence both personal development as well as the ability to participate in, and in the development of, skills for citizenship competences and in this way, contribute to the development of the global civil society.
The research includes studies at the individual, organisational and society level, and are premised in various theoretical and methodological perspectives.
