Research subject Theatre for children and young people
One of the main research areas within Theatre Studies is theatre for children and young people. Themes and topics as well as their onstage presentation constitute the focus for the department's research.
Children's and youth theater is also placed in relation to children's cultural expressions in a broader sense. Relevant questions are which ideas about children and childhood characterize theatre for children and young people, and how aesthetic expressions change over time. Questions about the adult world's view of performing arts for children and young people are also addressed, as well as children's reception of theatre. Theories used range from childhood studies and hermeneutics to historiography, cultural theory and postcolonial perspectives.
