Högre seminarium: Maria Koptjevskaja Tamm, Stockholms universitet

Two months ago, I entered a new stage of life and became an emerita. This feels like the right moment to share how I discovered linguistics and why I have devoted so many years to it. In short, it is the story of my journey from a school student at a linguistic Olympiad in Moscow in 1971 to setting lexical typology on fire in Osnabrück in 2026 as President of the Societas Linguistica Europaea. Looking back over these years—with all their ups and downs—I will also offer a few reflections on my own plans and the future of our field.
